Your system can work without the traffic antenna that's in the box, but we recommend you use it. It boosts your system's ability to receive real-time traffic updates, especially outside metropolitan areas. (This applies only to the NAVIGON 7100 and 5100, otherwise the traffic antenna is built into the car charger.)
